Language Proficiency Test (for bilingual staff):
Language proficiency is a skill-set requiring knowledge of basic grammar, vocabulary and syntax, among other things. Designed to identify an individual's level of linguistic proficiency in one of 170 languages, the test is in the format of an oral proficiency interview conducted entirely in the tested language.
The language proficiency test is also available in English to help determine the ability of a non-native English speaker to communicate in an English-speaking environment without undue interference from the speaker’s native language.
The Language Proficiency Test assesses:
- Listening and speaking
- Comprehension
- Pronunciation and enunciation
- Register
- Grammatical correctness
- Use of idiomatic expressions
Interpreter Skills Test (entry level assessment for working interpreters):
Language interpretation is a complex task that requires knowledge of interpreting skills and protocol, as well as terminology in the tested field. Although fluency in two languages is required for interpreters, bilingualism alone is not sufficient to ensure that the bilingual individual has the specific skill-set needed for interpreting between the two languages.
The Interpreter Skills Test is a comprehensive test that assesses:
- Fluency in English and the tested language
- Communicative skills
- Interpreting skills
- Interpreting protocols
- Industry terminology and professionalism required for specific settings
Medical Certification Test (for trained medical interpreters):
Medical interpretation is a challenging profession requiring specific training, as well as interpreting experience in clinical environments. The ever-advancing field of medicine demands that interpreters update their knowledge of terminology on an ongoing basis to meet interpreting needs in a wide range of health care specialties and professions.
The Medical Certification Test offers a high level means of assessing the interpretation skills and knowledge of interpreters who have already taken medical interpreter training and have applied that to their work in a health care setting.
The Medical Certification Test assesses:
- Medical terminology knowledge
- Medical procedure knowledge
- Interpretation skills and protocols
- Bilingual language fluency
- Knowledge of culture-specific medical practices

The Court Certification Test helps court staff to ensure that the interpreters they use have the knowledge of terminology and protocol needed to provide professional consecutive interpreting services for a variety of court scenarios and enables interpreters to certify their competence through a validated testing process.
