Language Line Services and American Breast Cancer Foundation Introduce ''Speak Pink'' Dual-Handset Telephone
''Speak Pink'' Program to Help Fight Breast Cancer in 170 Languages

MONTEREY, CA (Aug. 29, 2006) — Language Line Services, the leading provider of language solutions, and the American Breast Cancer Foundation today announced the introduction of the "Speak Pink" breast cancer awareness dual-handset phone program. As part of this fundraising program for breast cancer awareness, healthcare providers will be able to lease a pink version of the popular Language Line(R) Phone, a unique, quick-dial, dual-handset communication tool used to facilitate three-way communications between medical providers, limited English speaking patients and interpreters. Proceeds from the lease of the "Speak Pink" phones will be donated to the American Breast Cancer Foundation.
"Language barriers between patients and physicians significantly impact limited English speakers' access to mammograms, clinical breast exams and other early breast cancer detection methods as well as preventative care," said Jeanette Anders, Language Line Services' director of healthcare marketing.
Anders noted that this lack of access to early care leads to higher incidences of late-stage breast cancer where survival rates are extremely low.
"Part of Language Line Services' core mission is to improve access to quality healthcare, regardless of language," said Anders. "The 'Speak Pink' phone is one more vehicle to help advance this mission while providing awareness and information to ethnic groups impacted by a language barrier who may not have the level of awareness afforded to others."
Beginning in October, hospitals will be able to replace their current Language Line Phones with "Speak Pink" phones for use in their own breast cancer awareness programs. In addition to the awareness generated by the program, Language Line Services will donate proceeds related to the ordering of the "Speak Pink" phones to the American Breast Cancer Foundation.
"Language Line Services has shown a tremendous commitment to the fight to eradicate breast cancer through this effort," said Tammy Wagner, Vice President of the American Breast Cancer Foundation. "The 'Speak Pink' telephone will be both a means of communication for limited English speaking patients, and a tool to raise awareness among this at-risk population."
