Language Line Services' Louis Provenzano Elected to California Healthcare Interpreting Association Board of Directors

Monterey, CA — (February 2, 2007) — Louis Provenzano, President and COO of Language Line Services, the leading provider of interpreting services to health care organizations throughout the United States, was recently elected to the board of directors of the California Healthcare Interpreting Association (CHIA). Mr. Provenzano has made outstanding contributions to improving healthcare delivery in the State of California.

“I feel honored to join an organization that has made such incredible strides within the healthcare interpreting field,” said Provenzano. “At Language Line Services, we’ve seen first-hand the challenges that language barriers present in medical care and the importance of quality interpretations in medical diagnosis. I look forward to working together with CHIA to deliver new solutions to improve healthcare for all patients, regardless of language.”

Language Line Services has actively supported CHIA since its creation in 1996. Under Mr. Provenzano’s leadership, Language Line Services was awarded the “Friend of CHIA” award in June 2006 in recognition of the company’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the need to increase the quality and availability of language services in the healthcare setting. CHIA members include healthcare providers, hospitals, educators, government policymakers, language services agencies and individual interpreters.

“We are pleased to welcome Louis to the leadership of our organization,” said Katharine Allen, President of CHIA. “Language Line has been a long-term supporter of CHIA and we are excited that Louis has stepped up to serve on our board in our ongoing work to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers to quality health care. As the leader of the largest interpreting services company in the U.S., he brings unique expertise and perspective that will benefit CHIA tremendously. I very much look forward to working with him to the benefit of our members and to help advance our mission.”

Prior to joining Language Line Services in 2004, Mr. Provenzano served as Vice President of Worldwide Sales within the eFinance division of Metavante, one of the nation’s largest banking and payment technology providers. Along with Louis Provenzano, Haewoon Lee, a language coach with Nora’s CCSF training program, was also elected to CHIA’s board of directors.

About CHIA

The California Healthcare Interpreting Association is a 501 (c) (3) public charity dedicated to improving the quality and availability of language services in the delivery of healthcare. The organization was founded as the California Healthcare Interpreters Association in 1996 by group of interpreters and program managers. The name was changed in 2003 to Interpreting to better reflect CHIA’s mission of serving the public interest, and particularly the interests of LEP patients, rather than serving as a professional association of interpreters.
