Apple Distinguished Educators Learn That Language Matters
Apple's Educators Visit Language Line Services and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center
October 29, 2007 - Monterey - Did you know that Apple makes iPods, iPhones, computers and software used every day by millions around the world? Silly question, right?
What you may not know is that Apple also makes huge investments - in time, talent and capital - to advance the quality of American education... including the education of limited English speakers.
Toward that goal, a team of Apple Distinguished Educators visited the headquarters of Language Line Services the other day.
These education professionals toured our interpreter communication center and spent an hour with our company's president, Louis Provenzano, discussing a range of issues including the effect immigration and language barriers have on their effectiveness in the classroom.
Earlier in the day the team of educators also visited the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center ...
...also in Monterey, California... The Language Capital of the World
Here you can view videos of their visit and learn more about Apple Distinguished Educators .
These two case studies provide authentic illustrations of globalization in today's society and education.
