TranslateExpress Will Be Available via Epic, Enabling Multilingual AVS

Written by Evelyn Stefani | May 11, 2026

Health systems are under increasing pressure to deliver clear, timely discharge instructions for patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). Clinicians often finalize After Visit Summaries (AVS) under tight timelines, with critical details created in real time.

This creates a challenge. Discharge instructions frequently include dynamic, patient-specific content, such as medication guidance, wound care, and follow-up steps, that isn’t readily available in translation. While some static content may exist in multiple languages, the most important information is generated at the point of care, leaving a gap between what providers document and what patients can fully understand.

Bringing AVS translation directly into Epic™

Epic is preparing to make dynamic AVS content accessible through its integration tools. LanguageLine will be launching a new offering in the Epic Showroom designed specifically for AVS and discharge instructions.

This integration automates the secure transfer, tracking, and return of translated content directly within Epic. Providers can initiate and receive translations without leaving their existing workflow, eliminating manual steps and reducing delays during the discharge process.

LanguageLine TranslateExpress℠ available in Epic

Powering this integration is LanguageLine TranslateExpress, a rapid translation workflow built for time-sensitive, patient-facing content.

TranslateExpress delivers translations for short-form materials in 2–4 hours by combining secure machine translation with expert human review. This hybrid approach ensures speed without compromising the accuracy and quality required for healthcare communication. Already in use across hundreds of healthcare documents via the LanguageLine Client Portal, TranslateExpress will extend that same capability directly into Epic as dynamic AVS integration becomes available.

Designed for real discharge workflows

TranslateExpress enables patients to receive clearer discharge instructions in their preferred language, improving understanding and reducing risk. Integrating eliminates the need for providers to manually coordinate translation during time-sensitive discharge processes. It supports more consistent, auditable communication across departments. Finally, it brings turnaround times in line with operational expectations, where hours, not days, make the difference.

Bridging today’s workflows with what’s next

There is a growing need to support multilingual communication today while preparing for more deeply embedded EHR capabilities in the future. LanguageLine is focused on helping health systems move forward now, with solutions that scale over time.

By combining a proven workflow like TranslateExpress with a forward-looking Epic integration strategy, organizations can improve discharge communication today without sacrificing quality, compliance, or long-term flexibility.

Preparation work can start now

LanguageLine already supports a wide range of healthcare workflows, from interpreting services to embedded translation solutions. We are actively working with Epic-based health systems to support both dynamic and static AVS content.
